Climbing Tower Highlights New Recreational ActivitiesAlyssa Page climbs the chimney side of the new climbing tower.

May 28, 2009

The new climbing tower at Park River Bible Camp has been installed and is ready for use. The project was completed by a team from Experiential Systems, Inc. on May 21 and facilitators were trained in its operation on May 22 and 23.

The tower is located on the north edge of the camp property, atop the high river bank. The tower itself is 35 feet tall and has a platform at the top from which climbers can see for miles around. The tower is built back from the edge of the river bank, but climbers can still see down to the river 50 feet below the base of the tower.

With a flat side, a lean-to slope on another side, a chimney/overhang shape on the third side, and several different shapes of climbing holds, the tower provides a challenge for climbers of all skills.

In addition to being an exciting new activity in our camp program, the climbing tower (as well as the high ropes course) is also available for outside groups. Please call the camp if you would like to set up a time for your group.

As we look up at the new climbing tower, we again give thanks for people like Ray Bigwood, whose generosity made this dream a reality.

Disc Golf Course

Another new recreational activity for 2009 is an improved disc golf course. The nine-hole course features new galvanized steel disc catchers that will last for many years to come. The new layout is consistent with the standard size of a disc golf course and will take participants all over camp.

It is our intention that these new activities provide campers with fun activities to do outdoors in God’s creation while we continue to encourage them in their faith relationship with Jesus Christ.
